"Her melodies are at once arresting and elusive, flowing more from intuition than musical logic." - The Chicago Reader
"No one can touch her" - Amy Ray of the Indigo Girls
"'Folk badass' might seem like an inappropriate term for an artist as intimate and soulful as Polenzani–but you know what? We’ll risk it." - Boston Weekly Dig 2009

Anne Heaton Quotes:

"Absolutely gorgeous" –NEW YORK TIMES ONLINE
"Nothing short of brilliant" - MELISSA FERRICK

Two heads are better than one. Like attracts like. If you put any stock in those two phrases, then it will come as no surprise to hear that award-winning, Boston-based singer songwriters Anne Heaton and Rose Polenzani are touring together this summer. Fans of intelligent pop, coffeehouse acoustic, folk and Americana styles are sure to enjoy these two as they support each others songs with sweet harmonies and a playful sense of humor. The comfort and camaraderie they exhibit on stage comes from years of touring and multiple collaborative projects.

Anne Heaton has amassed a loyal cult following with her songs that are by turns "tender, barbed and spiritual" (Washington Post). Her newest record 'Blazing Red' maps personal themes with organic vocals, pop melodies and piano-led arrangements. Heaton expresses feelings of loss and connection, from the desire to, one day, be a good mom, to letting go of past relationships. With her joyous spirit, warm voice and spacious piano playing, Heaton has been called "more of a storyteller than Norah Jones and definitely in the same category as far as talent and vocal range."

Rose Polenzani has spent the past ten years living and writing songs in Somerville, MA. Rose has been recently nominated for Best Folk Act in the 2009 Boston Music Awards, and won the 2008 Mountain Stage Newsong competition. Her unique singing voice is rich with emotion in all of her songs, which range from obscure images to tiny snapshots of personal moments. In January 2010, the Boston Herald called Polenzani “Not just another singer/songwriter... Polenzani’s songs are full of hidden lyrical corners and ghostly beauty.”

Anne Heaton and Rose Polenzani are also part of Winterbloom, a side project of five successful, internationally touring Boston-based singer-songwriters. Winterbloom, which includes Antje Duvekot, Meg Hutchinson and Natalia Zuckerman, just won the Lilith Local Talent Search and will be playing the 2010 Lilith Fair in Boston on July 30th. Quite an honor in itself, the achievement becomes doubly impressive when you realize just how many other songwriters call Boston home.

About Our Series:
I'm a live-music junkie, internet geek, aspiring performing songwriter and sometimes poet with a taste for indie-girl folk music in particular. I also host the Lyrical Venus Radio Hour every Tuesday from 9-10 on kruufm.com

While I focus on female singer-songwriters for my blog, we are open to having artists of any genre or gender to perform at our house. Crowds may not be huge, but they will be appreciative and attentive, and we're a good in-between spot from bigger cities that are about 5 hours away in one direction or another: Chicago, St. Louis, Kansas City, Lincoln, etc.
